Hazelwood Sports Club began major building works this week to add 4 floodlit artificial clay courts and a brand new indoor tennis dome to its site. Due for completion in February 2014, the additional facilities will make Hazelwood one of a small group of Tennis clubs in the country to offer 6 indoor tennis courts as well as a clay surface.
Kalo Sport are very excited by the prospect of being able to offer a clay surface for children on our tennis camps to experience. Some of the many benefits of clay for young players are firstly, that it is a slower surface to play on as it gives players more time to reach each ball, thus leading to longer rallies and better exercise. The clay’s slowing of the ball also reduces its basic impact force against the racquet, helping somewhat to offset stress on the arm from more frequent off-center hits. If you want to improve your patience and your ability to think another shot ahead, playing on clay will help, as it makes quick put-aways considerably more difficult.
The new indoor dome will have a retractable roof, so players can still enjoy 3 outdoor hard courts in the summer. For our football coaching we are also very privileged to offer a large indoor space with 8″x 6″ goals on our holiday camps and Saturday coaching sessions. Stay tuned for further updates on the current developments at our flagship venue Hazelwood Sports Club, Winchmore Hill.
